In order to meet the growing parking demand of the Park Street Business District, as well as the anticipated additional parking needs for the renovated historic Alameda Theatre, the City of Alameda Community Improvement Commission decided to build a parking garage on a design/build basis.
The project scope consisted of a six-level, 341-space parking structure on a 1237’x150’ site, located midblock on Oak Street between two busy streets, Central and Santa Clara. The building’s architecture echoes Art Deco, complementing the renovated and expanded adjacent theatre project. The sign marquee along with the colorful stucco exterior makes the garage inviting and enhances the downtown shopping area, as well as the Civic Center.
In keeping with the City of Alameda’s vision for forward-thinking design, the structure provides dedicated bicycle/motorcycle parking.
