East Dublin / Pleasanton BART Parking Structure

Dublin, CA      Transportation

The Dublin/Pleasanton Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Station parking structure, a seven-level, 1500 space garage, welcomes commuters as it sits off of the 580 Freeway in Northern California.

The parking geometrics of this structure employ a ninety-degree two-way flow in a two-bay double helix ramp with an adjacent level third bay. This ramping configuration promotes convenient search patterns for entering vehicles and allows them to conveniently cycle the garage in under six turns from ground to roof.

The Dublin/Pleasanton Station parking facility utilizes a cast-in-place, post-tensioned beam and slab system. Along with its sturdiness, the architectural character of this nearly half million square foot parking structure is one of prominence and bold gesture, taking the building mass as part of the design rather than concealing it.

To balance the expressed parking ramp on the exterior, punctuated blocks of architecture step in concert and in contrast to the ramp by creating a focal to the eye which helps mask the sloping façade to the hundreds of thousands of daily passersby.
