Sacramento City College Parking Structure

Sacramento, CA      Education

Electing to consolidate the many parking lots on their land-locked Sacramento City Campus, Los Rios Community College District was in need of a parking structure. The east side of the college had been selected for the site of the new parking structure as it already contained the city light-rail and bus stops. The parking structure, along with the campus stadium, frames the commuters' entrance to the college with a new pedestrian promenade.

In addition to the parking structure and directly adjacent to it, IPD designed a new 3,175 square foot Campus Police Building. Both projects are clad with pre-cast concrete panels veneered with brick and iron-work fenestration that echoes the Spanish Colonial architecture of Sacramento City College. The structure handles over 1900 cars with gently sloping ramps, two-way traffic flow and 90-degree parking. The five-floor, five-bay structure is accessed via two decorative stair and elevator towers.
