As Architect of Record, IPD worked with McCarthy Building Companies on the recently completed UC San Diego – Athena Parking Structure. Located on the University’s East Campus, the seven-level, 1,273-space parking structure includes office space for campus security, as well as an innovative plan configuration that wraps around and conceals two 1.1 million gallon Thermal Energy Storage (TES) tanks. The design features a dramatic glass-backed elevator/stair tower prominently located at the adjacent street intersection. The visually striking façade, designed by Studio E, includes metal screen fins, cast concrete and other enhancements, completing an impressive new facility that provides much needed parking for the busy campus.
