As part of Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center’s redevelopment master plan, Parking Structure #2 serves as the gateway to the Medical Center as well as providing parking to patients and employees.

The exterior façade features two major metal-frame plaster-finish fins at both vehicle entry/exit locations. This design symbolizes the spirit of Harbor City, California sailing and echoes the theme of the existing medical center and future development.

The eye-catching elevator and stair tower features functional state-of-the-art design in the glass wall, exposed structural steel, and custom designed stair railing system.

Sustainable features include vegetated bio-swale and bio-detention systems to collect and filter drain water from the building, drought resistant native landscape species, and porous asphalt paving for runoff water from the on-site east parking lot. Integral colored precast concrete panels and galvanized wire mesh screens allow for vines to climb and thrive, and articulate the design and texture of the facade.

With excellent teamwork between the client, consultants and contractor, this structure was constructed one month ahead of schedule.
